spreader bar
A spreader bar is a below the hook lifting device used to help pick up large and heavy loads. The main idea behind a spreader bar is to distribute the load of a lift across more than one point. This increases the stability and decreased the loads applied during hoisting.
The use of spreader bars has many advantages in materials handling. Spreader bars protect the load from rigging materials. It also allows for multi pick point lifts and ensure a maintained sling angle throughout the hoist. A spreader bar has two lugs going up to transmit the load to the crane. The two lifting lugs on the spreader beam attach to the legs of a chain or sling, this evenly distributes the eight of the load across the two slings which is connected to the tower crane.
Ideal for use when lifting items such as site sheds to spread the width of the lifting sling, avoiding damage to the shed roof.
